About Selwyn College's blogs

In recent years, web logging or "blogging" has become a popular way for individuals and organisations to record events in their lives, communicate with friends and establish relationships with new readers. In addition to the blogs written by the Warden and Chaplain, Selwyn College has chosen to turn this new technology into an academic opportunity by appointing a number of Blog Scholars.

Blog Scholarships

Blog Scholars not only help to maintain a healthy and well-connected community within Selwyn, but also form part of the College's public presence by providing a glimpse of life from within the Selwyn community.

Blog Scholars publish blog posts roughly weekly on the College website during term time. These posts may be in either written or photographic form; written posts are often of variable length, ranging from very short links and quotations to longer and more focused pieces. Scholars posting photos deliver their "photo of the week", which might depict something in either the life of the College or the blogger's personal experience.

In recognition of their artistic and cultural contribution to College life, Blog Scholars are awarded an annual honorarium, which is delivered as a reduction in the final two instalments of College fees. Tenure of the Scholarship is for one year, although Blog Scholars are able to re-apply in future years.

In determining the recipients of these Scholarships, preference is generally given to students returning to the College for a second or third year of study. The quality of application, involvement in College life and personal circumstances of each applicant are also taken into account.
