Another gnome in the Sewlyn fold

Posted by Teriana Maheno on Friday, October 23, 2009 / 0 Comments

Those of you who know anything about Selwyn probally know that were quite into our gnomes. Theres a few, extremely old and expensive gnomes hiding away within the walls of Selwyn (hiding from those knoxies) and every year Selwynites go about 'collecting' gnomes to pass on to those moving into our rooms next year.
The other night while sitting in dinner a random guy brought this massive gnome you see below into the dining hall, placed it on high table and left.
The note attached said that our friend, named Sir Gallahan Stuart, was commissioned by some Selwyn exies who still had alot of love for this college and our traditions. It didn't come with any names but to whoever is responsible this was an AMAZING gift.
Sir Gallahan now sits proudly over the dining hall keeping an eye over the Selwyn community.

Quad Day

Our annual Selwyn 21sters ball is a little bit different to your everyday ball. While most finish that evening ours extends across the whole weekend with champagne breakfast that sunday morning and Quad day for the next 24hrs.
Quad day is all about chilling out in the sun, having a few drinks, listening to some good music, playing table tennis, getting a tan and reliving the evening before- this year we even had a pool to splash around in. Quad day is probally my favourite day of the whole year and is one of those things that makes Selwyn unique.
Enjoy the pics !

Playing catchups...

Apologies on the lack of blogs lately, my laptop recently had an unfortunate encounter with gingerbeer and its taken a while to get back up and running. The next few blog posts are going to be dating back for a while so hopefully you can keep up.

This is quite possibly my favorite post as, winding down for exams, you tend to forget what a good night out on the town with Selywn kids really is. For those of you who got into selwyn for 2010 this is whats waiting for you :)

Dunedin gets sunny...

Posted by Teriana Maheno on Saturday, August 15, 2009 / 0 Comments

I think sometimes Dunedin gets a bit of a bad rep for our weather conditions. Everyone who's walked through our hall on tours seems to be under the impression that all it does down here is snow and rain! So for all of you disbelievers heres some photos of the Selwyn Quad on a beautiful AUGUST day! Jealous much?

Re-oweek!!

Posted by Teriana Maheno on Saturday, August 1, 2009 / 0 Comments

It was with absolute estacy that i watched the kids of Selwyn descend back on dunedin for what we call re-oweek but you might know as 'take two'. Unlike oweek where it's all about meeting new people and figuring where you fit in in the scheme of things, re-oweek at Selwyn is all about catching up with your mates, raging dunedin and generally having a fantastic time :) Being the best week of the entire year it might come as no suprise that there's no way i can post all the pictures that i've taken. That said ive tried to come up with a 'picture-of-the-night' for the: back to school hop, fluro re-rave, and the octagon night! hope you enjoy :)

Selwyn gets snow!

With exams fully underway and stress levels at an all time high it was an amazing moment to wake up to a ground covered in snow, especially for those of us who live up in the north island! What better excuse to be at the libary than weather like this? Gotta love Dunedin :)
