Selwyn's historic brick buildings are arranged around a central quadrangle: 'the Quad'. This placement of buildings and the consequent central lawn is usually known as a 'court' in Cambridge where architecturally similar colleges exist. Furnished with a lawn and attractive gardens, the Selwyn Quad is a hub of day to day College social life, a place of random meetings and accidental conversations.
Wireless access is available in all College buildings and common areas via Selwyn's broadband network. Additionally, Selwyn's main accommodation buildings, Whitehead, Sargood and Richardson have wired ports connected directly to the University fibre. Several computers and a printer are also available on the network for student use.
The Northcroft library and Study Centre is central to Selwyn's collegiate identity; it is a Selwyn-only facility containing, tutorial rooms, a seminar room, a reading room, computer facilities, college memorabilia, and a small chapel.
Selwyn is the only College at Otago with its own designated squash court; this facility is free for current and former residents to use. The College also has a tennis court which is heavily subscribed in the longer summer evenings.
Dedicated music rooms at the College provide a location for individual and band practice. The College has its own rock band and holds instrumental and other competitions with Knox College in Dunedin and College House in Christchurch.

Sargood Hall
The physical space for a senior presence at Selwyn College has been desired for a long time. Now it has been created in the form of a Senior Common Room. The space will play an important part in building closer links with the University, Selwyn Alumni, and other friends of the college. Its opening was celebrated in style on November 20th.
As a community of mutual care, Selwyn College concerns itself with the betterment of the individuals that form it, and the betterment of society as a whole. The College Fellows play an important part in this. Now they, together with the Board, have a place to call their own on the College site. We are grateful to the Sargood Bequest for helping to make this vision a reality.
In another development, Selwyn recently secured the purchase of 69 Dundas Street, further increasing the college's footprint on the University campus.
The Catacombs common room has also been refurbished over the summer
