A Message from the new student president, December 2011

It's unfortunate that after almost a year of trying to settle into a new community braving unpredictable rain, wind and snow, we go back to our hometowns for the holidays, leaving behind a belated Dunedin sun that we collectively yearned for since the year began, as well as friends that have become as close as family.

I guess all good things must come to an end, and what a 'good thing' the year of 2011 has been.  The successes of this year are owed to the efforts of all students and staff, but on their behalf I express our special thanks to the outgoing Committee and those soon to become ex-residents of Selwyn, for their contribution to a year filled with triumphs and memories.

While we wave goodbye to the year that was, we now await reuniting next year to embrace the excitement that 2012 has to bring. The returning residents are already preparing to meet the new entrants in the annual BBQ Tours, building towards running an unforgettable O-Week and making a year that we can call our own. Like the traditions that Selwynites so often speak of, the torch will continue next year to shine bright for Selwyn College, and it is my honour to lead the SCSA in passing this light on. I look forward to making yet another 'good thing' of 2012.
